Electronic music is a general term (genre), identifying music, created with the help of electronic devices. Any sound, produced by electronic signal, may be called “electronic” one. That is why the term “electronic music” is often applied to the one played by usual acoustic instruments just because of electronic amplifiers used in the course of recording or playing (like, for example, in jazz or folk music).

As a marketing term, electronic music is a music predominantly created by means of electronic equipment, such as synthesizers, samplers, computers, and drum-machines.

The most popular direction of electronic music is so called “electronic dance music” (similar term is “electronic club music”).

Many people were occupied by the problem of music creation by machines. First, the issue was raised in the story “Mister Laugh” by Alexander Belyaev. The first serious attempts of algorithmic music creation are connected with appearance of computers.

However, it is believed that Mozart was the first to use algorithm for composing music. He called his method “a musical game of dice” (musikalisches Wurfelspiel). The minuet composition was compiled from previously chosen measures, randomly arranged to eight-measure phrase. Each combination of dices had a corresponding number in the typical measure list, thus after eight casts the first phrase was created, then the second one, and so on.

Electronic music is rooted in the 70-s of the previous century: Kraftwerk, Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream, Jean-Michel Jarre, Klaus Schulze, Mike Oldfield, Vangelis, Kitaro are the true pioneers of the style. It is impossible to characterize and classify explicitly styles and tendencies of this trend. Just recall those distant times – a “golden era” of electronic psychedelia, and space music. Someone might consider it old-fashioned and non-attractive; however, those were the times when this musical culture branch was born, the one that is still alive and thriving, and righteously called “electronic music”. Today, hundreds of interesting and revolutionary composers are acting at electronic stage of the Earth. The project “All about electronic music” will do it best to be your guide in the realm of electronic spaces and cosmic music.

The site you are visiting is dedicated to electronic music. Here, you can find detailed information about ways of creating music compositions, read interesting articles about music, find necessary software, learn interesting news from music world, find soul mates, communicate through our forum, and do many other things…

The only aim of this site is promoting progressive culture and spreading hereof amongst masses. Once upon a time, I believed that house, rave, jungle and trance are just the same, and have never suspected that anything like “big beat” or “trip hop” existed. Finally, I could not even imagine that house and trance are as different for competent people as jazz, rock, classical music and pop are different for me… And in this very moment, I felt an urge to learn about all those things in detail. I looked through lot of pages and sites but, to my deep disappointment, have never find, what I was looking for – detailed information collected in one resource.
